It dead-ends into a parking lot at the base of the Palos Verdes hills. Parking is available all along the beach.
Turning onto this class 1 bike Upfield Bike Path path and crossing to the library leads to Fiji Way, which has a class 2 lane that can be followed through Fisherman s Village and to a roundabout at the end. Following the path that curves to the right and then left will bring riders South through the parking garage, and eventually to the Southern part of the pier, where there are tourist shops, places to eat, and a police station.
Adventurous off-road cyclists can climb a medium-steep grade ramp from the parking lot into the Palos Verdes hills, where cycling is substantially more difficult. The Santa Monica portion of the path is an 8.5-mile (13.7 km) Class 1 path in Los Angeles County running from Temescal Canyon in the north to Washington Boulevard in Venice in the south. The South Bay bicycle path is a paved path that provides access to the beach and other unimproved property. Southbound from Will Rogers State Beach, the path passes through Santa Monica, under the Santa Monica Pier, then continues along Santa Monica State Beach to Venice, where it veers off from and parallels Ocean Front Walk until Washington Boulevard / Venice Pier, where the separate Class 1 path ends temporarily. The path splits and links to the Hermosa Beach path: About 1/2 mile past Beryl Street the path veers to the right off Harbor Avenue and resumes being a two-way Class 1 path, which leads South toward the parking structure for the Redondo King Harbor Pier.
There is a Bank of America ATM outside the parking structure on the southern wall, next to the bike path entrance. The bike path was first planned in the last decade of the nineteenth century. The south end links to The Strand through a series of Class 2 and Class 1 paths beginning where the path ends at Washington Boulevard.
Turning left on the bridge, crossing the water, and turning right leads to the North end of the Class 1 Strand. The Strand is a paved bicycle path that runs mostly along the Pacific Ocean shoreline in Los Angeles County, California.
There is a small Class 1 path on the right, just past the bird sanctuary, which travels along Admiralty Way. Following the roundabout leads to a Class 1 path on the right, which leads to an extension of the Ballona Creek bicycle path.
The northern terminus of the trail is a paved Class 1 bicycle path at Will Rogers State Beach (about Temescal Canyon and the Pacific Coast Highway). The trail ends in Torrance County Beach in South Redondo Beach. The path is 22 miles long, and the midpoint between the two ends of the path is near the southern end of the Playa del Rey residential area.
